Pronunciation:

While they read, write on paper any mispronounced words and underline the incorrect sound.

Questions to ask yourself:

  1. Which sounds are not clear?

  2. Are consonant clusters frequently reduced? (one of the consonants deleted?)

  3. Are they stressing the right syllable in a word?

  4. Are they stressing the right word in a sentence?

  5. Is their voice rising and falling appropriately in the sentence

How many sounds do they struggle with? Try to write down each word the student mispronounces on paper and mark the sound that was wrong.  Then, count up the unique sounds.  It’s unlikely to be 30 or over.
